Snack Time
Snack suggestions relate to the month/color/animal/value and include conversation ideas for ways to talk about the value while munching, and a value in motion suggestion of an action or “game” that can be played while eating.
Crafts
We provide different crafting ideas that are easy and cost effective to construct, printable directions in a step by step format for kids learning how to follow directions as well as ways for grown ups to take the value to another level as kids are crafting. You can also follow us on Pinterest for continuing and fresh ideas!
Homework Time
Use our downloadable poster to display in your homework section that have a simple message that help kids connect the value to the daunting task of completing their homework.
Station/Centers
Most after school programs, whether facilitated from a cart, closet, or you are lucky enough to have your own facility – have a time in their afternoon where kids may pick from stations/centers. We understand that for the most part, these stations are always the same. These centers may include a dress up corner, Puppet Theater, block building rug, science kit, reading nook, to name a few. In this component, without breaking the bank, we want to suggest you add to each month’s station list, the opportunity for kids to go to the value station/center. This will be different monthly, but allow kids to explore and discover the value on their own and incorporate other academic areas or skills they already posses.
Outdoor Game
We provide you with outdoor game ideas that are familiar with a values spin put on them and also original games we’ve made up that hit home the value of the month.
Service Learning Idea
Use a monthly service learning project, activity, or experience to enhance kids’ understanding of the value and what it really means to posses it in their lives.
Value and Nature
You’ll get a simple explanation of why the featured animal of the month is a great representative of the value in the animal world, along with a non-fiction book suggestion, and an idea of how to make it stick (a game outside, a role play, etc.).
Technology
Look for links on where to find more info on the animal or value, websites that feature some related topic, suggestions for creating power points or other media driven creative tools, suggestions for video links to show and talk about. We want you to have resources!
Small Group Time
To make the most of this time, we provide you with reader’s theater booklets to use within small groups (K-2 and 3-5), group leader discussion questions, and even a small group activity idea.
Visual Resources
Reminders through visual resources are great for staff, children and families! Mini-Posters for displaying in your common areas, certificates used to award kids each month for demonstrating the value, and a family connection sheet to send home letting parents know how they can extend the month’s value into their family time.
Family Communication Tool
Find here the tools to make the value extend to the home. It’s no mystery that families hold the biggest influence in a child’s life. You’ll find Family CORE Time sheets in PDF and a Family Ezine (html emails) that include Car time where families can download the value songs, Open Wide times where families are given simple conversation topics, Reading time – families have their own book suggestions, and Experience time – where families can see the value at work in their community.
